G’day, I’m James
I started WestAI because I wanted to put 20 years of hard-won IT experience to work for the businesses around me, not for a mine site overseas.
My story
I started out in hospitality tech, keeping point-of-sale and stock systems running. From there I worked in network and infrastructure roles in the UK and Canada, including running IT for a major resort. Then came mining and oil and gas: fly-in fly-out roles looking after process control networks, industrial communications and, most recently, being the only senior IT person on a remote overseas mine site. When something broke there, it was my phone that rang.
What that taught me
Keep it simple. Know what you’ve got, know who can touch it, and know what happens if it fails. That applies to a mine site and it applies to a café in Dunsborough.
Why AI
Over the last couple of years I’ve been building automations with tools like n8n and Claude to cut out the repetitive work. It’s the most useful thing I’ve seen in tech in a long time, as long as it’s used sensibly.
Now
I live in Busselton with my family. WestAI works with businesses across the South West in person, and further afield remotely. When you work with us, you deal with me.
